GDIPS: a digital campfire
"We're building a digital campfire, not a perfect one, but warm enough for those who want to gather around."
This is the story of GDIPS - the Geometry Dash Indonesia Private Server - and how it grew from a list into a community.
It started with a list
On July 10, 2025 I published Freedom-List - "Pomni Pomni Pomni" - a directory of free Geometry Dash servers. I had joined GDPS Hub as a user the December before. The list was supposed to be a small utility: find a server, play, done.
But browsing communities is contagious. You start noticing what makes a server feel alive - and what makes one feel cold. So the idea grew: what if Indonesia had its own server, open-source from the first commit, built by the people who play on it?
GDIPS Reborn
On April 27, 2026, GDIPS went public: an open-source, community-driven Geometry Dash private server, licensed GPL-3.0. We call it GDIPS Reborn because by then the idea had already lived several lives in drafts and experiments.
What makes it ours:
- Open source - every line of code is public
- Community-driven - collaborative moderation and creativity-focused rules
- Close to home - an Asia-based CDN for smoother access from Indonesia
- Honest about its state - basic server functionality and experimental tools, a UI overhaul in progress, a basic security framework, and ongoing database optimizations
The philosophy is written on the box: not the biggest, not the fanciest, but built with heart.
The people around the fire
A campfire is only as good as the people around it. GDIPS runs on kindness: MathieuAR keeps the servers running for free, MegaSa1nt built the GDPS core and dashboard, ZeroxyGD and GiffariRMX taught and helped from the beginning, DANZGAME made a texture pack for the server, Migmatos provides the custom songs, and Blazen helped more players find us. And of course - thank you RobTop, the absolute legend who created Geometry Dash in the first place.
The community has since grown past 150 members, including collaborators from more than two countries. My proudest title isn't "founder" - it's "the person who lit the fire."
